A conversation between me and my friend was brought up today about our choices in work location upon graduation. Although there is still plenty more than 1 year left before we graduate, we are already starting to settle into our ultimate career choices. We had both agreed that Asia and Europe (maybe New York too) are indeed the best locations to work due to their "metroness" and wide availability of wonderful public transportation.

After having worked in both the financial sector and computer (software and hardware) sector in the past few years, I don't think I can sign myself up to work for a computer company (unless they have a crazy office in a downtown setting, such as GoogIe Taiwan, located waaaaay up in Taipei 101). Industrial technology parks are just absolutely terrible. No amount of on-site facilities and free food will be able to make me work in an industrial park. I enjoy being able to go outside for a walk when it's a slow day at work, or if I needed a break from chaos. I find my job satisfaction and work performance being the best when I can .... well... take any number of breaks any time I want.

I have one term left for internship, but this is the one term that is most treasured by the recruiters of top technology companies and investment banks. Where I go for my last internship will probably determine who I choose for my permanent job. A certain investment bank has presented an opportunity in Hong Kong recently and it has me quite excited about the career offerings at the IB. With the IBs in the US and Europe recovering slowly from the credit crunch (1 yr + 1 day!), hiring will soon pick-up again for them as well. I know for sure that the other software company will make their recruitment offerings sometime in the next 8-10 months. That software company... is also damn close to what I call my favourite place on earth. When that happens... who will I choose?
